Amanda Askell is the resident philosopher at AI company Anthropic. She is responsible for the fine-tuning of Claude, ensuring that the model is honest, displays reliable character traits and adheres to clear ethical principles. Askell studied philosophy in Dundee and Oxford before completing her doctorate at New York University with a dissertation on “infinite ethics” – ethical problems in worlds with an infinite number of actors.
